"Where the sea meets the land there is a border. We live at the border where bits meet atoms …"Tangible Bits versus Ubiquitous Computing
There are two branches of TUI: Tangible Bits (focused on creating physicality of digital information) and Ubiquitous Computing (computers disappear and integrate digital information in our everyday lives and everyday objects). Both focus on improving / coalescing our "dual citizenship" in our physical environment and cyberspace. However, some of my favorite uses of TUI do not implicitly revolve around touch or computers disappearing.
I love technologies like Doxie, Office Lens, and Google Drive that make information accessible from anywhere (digitally). Perhaps this is ubiquitous computing? The processing power of computing in other objects (phones, scanners), sending digital information to other objects (desktops, other phones)? What do you think?
1) Doxie
2) Office Lens
3) OCR in Google Drive uploads (new this year! change the settings of your own Google Drive to test it out!)
