Learn from Things: Talking to a Representative from the Bard Graduate Center

A few days ago, as I went to the student center for lunch, I met an admissions representative from the Bard Graduate Center of Decorative Arts, Design History, and Material Culture. 2 Wellesley art history students are now a part of the program. However, I saw distinct connection between the work done at the Center and Wellesley's Media Arts and Sciences major and HCI in general.

Their mission is to "learn from things." They have many interesting graduate programs that include New York and American Material Culture and Modern Design History. Although these studies are interdisciplinary and include a lot of writing, there are salient and important ties to TUI technology. Concepts and histories learned at the BGC could be amazing leverage in visual analogies, affordances, and familiarity for users. TUIs can be made more artful and integrated.

They have a distinct appreciation for the tangible and its irremovable mark and effect on culture and technology today. They have a great Youtube channel (I wanted  to feature a talk on tech here)

I wanted to feature an interesting blurb on a student experience, starting at 1:14.
